What’s Sanders Up To Now?

For the past several months I have been concerned that there are few reasoned commentators on the happenings in the Hub City of the South Plains—Lubbock—and have felt a desire to speak out on some of the many news issues that impact the citizens of this community.

For sure there are legitimate venues for commentary on local issues.  The first one that comes to mind is my former employer, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, where I toiled for several decades, and there also is Consider This, a weekly commentary by Dan Jackson, general manager of NewsChannel 11.  Both are extremely credible opinion makers and should be respected for their well-researched and thought-out positions.

In addition, there are some blogs and radio talk shows that offer their opinions about the comings and goings of our schools, our elected and appointed officials, as well as the normal mundane activities of the community and region.  Too often, though, I find their comments to be shrill, pointless, and don’t add anything of much consequence to the public discourse on important topics.

Now, I’ve decided to join the fray.

In no way do I expect to challenge the legitimate media—their resources dwarf mine—and they do a very good job.  But I do hope to add to our community by developing a blog that will critique the news and newsmakers.

My plan is to speak out on this blog in a way that I hope will make our community a better place to have a business and to raise a family.

Will everything I pontificate on always be positive?  No.  But, on the other hand, neither will it be always be negative.

Where possible, I want to offer my ideas on solutions to some of the problems we all face in our daily lives.

While I tend to the conservative side of the political spectrum, there will be many times that my thoughts will be left of center.  I am not and will not be strident on everything and am willing to listen and seriously consider the reasoned opinions of others.  I have always believed that reasonable people with different ideas can come together to create excellent solutions.

While I hope to blog frequently, there will be issues that are not easy to weigh in on without thinking through before developing a position.  And, quite frankly, not everything that happens in our community will spark a comment.

At all times, my thoughts will be my opinions only.  You are certainly entitled to your opinions, and they will be respected by me and I hope others.

This will be a fun journey for me, and I hope for my readers.  I welcome your comments on the blog itself or via email at randysanders@live.com.

I enjoy reading your thoughts about the city and trying to figure out where you stand on the issues.

Seems Mr. Knotts is being facetious.
